Click here to purchase Gyokuro Green Tea.
"Gyokuro" literally translated means Pearl Dew. The tea is picked from the old bushes that are protected with bamboo blinds to reduce the effects of photosynthesis. With a bright and lovely cup, this sweet and clear tea is a treat at any time. Use spring water at a temperature well below boiling.
Gyokuro tea leaves are shielded from the sun for at least two weeks before being harvested. This causes the amino acids (Theanine) and caffeine in the tea leaves to increase, while catechin (the source of bitterness in tea, along with caffeine) decreases, giving rise to a sweet flavour. The tea also gains a distinct aroma from the covering process.
